This Newsletter is Garden-focused, short & sweet, and full of useful information. As always, I welcome questions & am just a reply away.
You'll be hearing from me 1 or 2 times a month, and I look forward to sharing what I'm working on in my garden & helpful tips for you.
Let's Chat Weeds~
Nearly everyone I talk with would love a cottage garden in their yard (no matter how big or small!). But the number one worry I hear from folks is that they don't know how they'll find the time to keep up with their garden⌠and by keep up, I mean keep the weeds away & the space looking nice. Are you worried about keeping up with your garden? You're not alone.
This is fair concern. The sun, heat, water, soil, that help your plants grow ALSO helps weeds grow. If you have a thriving, healthy garden, you will have weeds. It just happens. But here are my tried and true ways I keep up with weeding in my gardens:
- Use mulch to keep weeds down. Mulch is my absolute favorite natural garden support. I use untreated wood chips straight from an arborist. Mulch aids in water retention and ultimately helps your soil. If you're dealing with a LOT of weeds, I recommend sheet mulching, which means cutting down your weeds, putting cardboard over them, then putting 2-5 inches of mulch over the top.
- Weed in increments. Life is full for me with my two little children, our farm, and my Perennial Cottage Gardening business. I have found the best way for me to keep up with weeding is to take 5-20 minutes here and there. Part by part. Little by little. It's surprisingly effective!
- Weed BEFORE it looks like you have any weeds! I like to say that the best time to weed is when you take a cursory glance at your garden and it looks like there aren't any weeds. They're there, the weeds are simply small. So this make it the best time to go through
- Use a gardening tool to get the roots out. I like my Hori Hori from Barebones (non sponsored, I simply love my tool I've had for 4 years AND I love the company⌠as a side note, I will ALWAYS disclose sponsored content and I am passionate about only working with companies with transparent supply chains.)
Bottom line? You CAN keep up with your garden AND it's not too late to keep up with your weeds if they've gone a bit wild already this year. Your garden is never a lost cause!
Thanks for being here. Each month, I'll be sharing more information like the above. My goal is to be a gardening resource for you. I'm happy to hear from you & answer any gardening questions you might have <3
