The Autumn Garden & Cottage Garden Design Workshop

I try to spend the very start of my mornings in my garden, sometimes with a kiddo or two in tow.. Before I touch my phone, I make myself a cup of tea and head out to get morning sunlight in my eyes. Or, more apt today, misty rain in my hair. Today feels firmly planted in Autumn. As I walked around, I pulled a couple weeds & admired the asters and roses, and inevitably, as happens this time of year, I dreamed up a (small) garden expansion.

My first step every time, is to simply spend time in my space. And pretty soon it will be time to get out the drawing board (and by that I mean my pencil and paper) to design my new space. (I like to design my gardens in the Autumn/Winter, so I can get my Fall-planted bulbs planted in time to have them bloom in the Spring).

If you, too, are in the mood to start designing your Cottage Garden, I've created a Workshop for you. If you've been around a while, you might have heard me talk about it before. I've given the Cottage Garden Design Workshop live multiple times, but now it's recorded and in simple modules. Feeling fancy!

Here's the link to that: Cottage Garden Design Workshop

If you’re new here, Hi! I’m Hannah, the gardener behind Rooted Cottage Gardening. I love connecting with beginning & intermediate gardeners, sharing everything I do in my garden, & helping you decrease overwhelm. I focus on gardening for the bees & other pollinators, building beautiful soil, and growing for beauty blooms in every season (yes even winter!). I designed my Cottage Garden to be a cut flower garden and I harvest & make bouquets each week for my community.

In this Newsletter, I share everything I do in my gardens after over a decade of growing loads of veggies, fruit, & perennial flowers. Subscribe below to be notified whenever I share new garden tips.

Also, I am firmly against using generative AI in my work; Everything I share has been written/created by me from my own experience in my garden.

Our farm is located in Western Washington State. And within our specific region? This puts us in Garden Zone 8b. Our average last frost date is April 8th and our average first frost date is November 8th. (You can look up what your region is by use the links below.) What does this mean and why is this important to know? (Reminder: This information- and more- is found in my FOUNDATIONS Workshop, ...
Cleaning up the garden- October edition
I have been so eager for October this garden season. The shorter days, the cooler, rainier weather. While the mums and asters flourish, everything else starts to wind down.  Part of me, appalled, asks, “What?! What do you mean you’re excited for the beauty of the summer garden to fade?! What do you mean you are ‘done with the sun’ and crave the weeks of drizzle?“ And with apologies to “Summer P...
Seed Saving
There is something incredible about saving seeds from my own garden & planting them for next year’s garden. This time of year is perfect for gathering seeds from your garden or adding seeds to a list to buy so you can seed save next year. ^some seeds I've saved from my garden this year. The two most important things (in my experience) are 1. waiting until the seeds have matured enough on the p...
